The technical standards are often invisible to the users, but are necessary for the Information Systems when exchanging information or performing other tasks. An example is: the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). This is a communications protocol for the transfer of information on intranets and the World Wide Web.
The technical standards are usually developed by market actors, glimpses of which, in the context of Sri Lanka, can be found in the 'Guidelines on Nationwide Enterprise Architecture (NEA) Standards' and 'Addendum to the NEA Guidelines on Standards Document'.
However, instead of categorizing the technical standards based on technical domains – as has been the practice – the LIFe V2 recommends only the principles of standards selection. Depending on the requirements it is expected that the government organizations and their solution providers would adopt the standards based on the principles of standards selection as specified in the LIFe.
